hahahaha for breakfast on tolentino’s thursdays
July 11, 2007i don't know where to start! i missed this blog, and i am sad that now that i really have the time to write, i am quite confused where to start… ok. here we go!
Comm 141 class, Sir Tolentino's mass media and society class
Of course, it was an 830 class… having been used to afternoon classes i was late, but not late enough like sir tolentino who came in 30 mins after, just when we were so excited to jump off our seats to call it a quits, until a familiar Mohawk came into view.
Sir tolentino is the kind of teacher who earned all sorts of degrees in foreign places, taught in foreign lands, was a director of the film institute, do i need to say more? it's just he knows what he's talking about in class, and his Ph d proves it.
so he starts the class discussing depoliticized subjects. take Ateneans for example. depoliticized individuals in a sense have been blinded by their comfortable lifestyles that they have turned away from any form of social responsibility. then he randomly calls students according to their shirt color to explain everything related to this so-called depoliticization of individuals (where the hell did he get that term!).. miss white, miss blue. i swear i was wearing a faint lavender that day, so when he called out 'miss white, third row… (then i start staring at my shirt in the hopes that he'll realize that it is LAVENDER!, in shock, i must've looked WHITE)… the question was to me, ms white: what is a civil society.
civil society… ponies prancing in my brain, tip tapping their heels, neighing… ewan ko, basta ang ingay sa utak ko. grabe 'civil society' lang di ko pa masagot. so there.my one-million peso answer was…
"uhm, ang civil society ay mga miyembro ng lipunan na may pinapanatiling civil…" HUWAaAaAaAaAt!!!! tawa na lang si sir, sabay bounce ng kanyang mohawk, extreme embarassment and comedy for breakfast!
i slid down my seat and the tip tapping heels of the horses was drowned with the resonating laughter of my classmates and my Phd-degree holder prof. but i sure redeemed myself afterwards.
I have moved on by not coming to class the thursday after
(I was not feeling well.. hahaha!) charing!
